ABSTRACT
In the paper the authors demonstrate the effect of measurement density on the accuracy of space distribution of volumetric moisture in topsoil layer. The analyses were performed with the use of geostatistical methods, preceded with a preliminary estimation of the classic statistical measures. After verifying the condition of stationarity, empirical semivariograms were created, with the best-fitting mathematical models. Those were used in the kriging procedure for the purpose of determination of surface distributions of moisture. Based on a field experiment conducted at the locality of Sarbinowo, commune Mielno, it was demonstrated that an increase of moisture distribution accuracy is significant when the box size of the grid of measurement points is reduced to 1 m. Further increase in the density of measurement points entails an increase in the labour-intensity of the study and does not cause any significant differences in the accuracy of the moisture distribution created.
