ABSTRACT
Original landscape of the Pieniny for centuries underwent transformations due to changes in the area functions. The main factors influencing the changes were the settlement, population growth, the development of tourism and recreation, the discovery of mineral springs, the construction of the complex of water reservoirs on the Dunajec river, coverage of the area with the protection by the creation of the National Park and with the Natura 2000 program. The original function of the area – a forest of point settlement was gradually changed to settlement, agriculture, defense, tourist area, medical and spa, protecting wildlife and water resources. The creation of PPN stops the changes in the landscape by keeping the economy according to the principles of nature conservation.
