ABSTRACT
Aim of the study:
The Warsaw Fortress, built in the 19th century, constitutes an important element of the historical heritage of the Polish capital. However, as the city has developed, its role and significance have changed. The aim of this analysis is to understand the factors influencing the attractiveness of this landscape area in today’s times and the challenges facing its preservation and protection.
Material and methods:
The article presents the results of a study conducted based on analysis and consultations with residents. The focus was on identifying the unique features of the fortress landscape that attract residents and tourists, as well as on factors that may contribute to its degradation. The results of the analysis indicate that the Warsaw Fortress still has the potential for attractiveness as a cultural and tourist destination, especially due to its historical value and architectural diversity. However, increasing challenges associated with city development, such as urbanization, infrastructure changes, and development pressure, pose significant threats. The article also discusses proposals for strategies for the protection and sustainable development of the Warsaw Fortress fortress landscape, which may help preserve its historical and cultural value while adapting it to the needs of the contemporary city.
Results and conclusions:
The results of the research unequivocally confirmed that the attractiveness of the fortress landscape depends closely on the social, urban, and historical context. To maintain the attractiveness of the Warsaw Fortress in the context of the modern city, it is necessary to develop strategies for its protection and sustainable development.
