ABSTRACT
Aim of the study:
This study aimed to evaluate and compare regional empirical IDF/DDF methods, with particular focus on the Revised IMD (RIMD) approach, for estimating design rainfall in ungauged catchments in Iran.
Material and methods:
Daily rainfall data from Baghmalek and Ahvaz were analyzed to determine the best-fit statistical distributions, develop DDF curves using four empirical methods, and assess performance using RMSE and Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency, along with a sensitivity analysis of the IMD parameter n.
Results and conclusions:
Results showed that the default IMD value (n = 0.333) was inaccurate for short durations, while calibrated values (n = 0.39 and 0.28) significantly improved agreement with observations and produced reliable runoff estimates.
